Savills Malaysia Breakfast Forum - Navigating 2018 and beyond

Savills Malaysia was grateful to host both Yolande Barnes, Head of Savills World Research and Andrew Staples, the Global Editorial Director, Economist Corporate Network during the inaugural Savills Malaysia Breakfast Forum hosted on 20th March 2018 at Hilton KL with the theme “Navigating 2018 and Beyond”.

The panel discussion was moderated by Andrew Staples, and panelists consisted of Yolande Barnes, Chris Marriott (CEO of Savills South East Asia) and Datuk Christopher Boyd (Executive Chairman of Savills Malaysia).

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Yolande Barnes
Head of Savills World Research

Yolande Barnes is head of the Savills World Research department. Her areas of focus are global cities, the movement of international capital in real estate, the impact of social, economic and environmental trends on all sectors of world real estate markets, global urbanism and mixed use issues.

In extending her research techniques to global markets, her remit has expanded to all types of cross-border real estate in both established and emerging markets.  Her work now involves providing thought-leadership and running a global research programme to provide sophisticated, market-oriented advice on all aspects of real estate, global wealth flows and market trends.

Andrew Staples
Global Editorial Director, Economist Corporate Network

Andrew is the global Editorial Director of the Economist Corporate Network (ECN), the Economist Intelligence Unit’s briefing and advisory service for senior business leaders. He leads and supports a team of Network Directors (NDs) across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, and ensures that editorial consistency and quality are maintained to the highest level. Andrew joined the Economist Group in 2013 and prior to his current role, ran ECN in Tokyo (later North Asia) and South-east Asia.

Andrew provides members with insight and analysis on a range of topics related to ASEAN and the broader East Asian economy. He regularly chairs and moderates major Economist events, delivers custom briefings to senior executives (including Fortune 500 C-suite) and public figures (including heads of states) in his areas of expertise in the international media (BBC, CNN, CNBC, Channel NewsAsia, Al Jazeera).

Chris Marriott
CEO - South East Asia

Having arrived in Asia in 1990, Chris has lived in both Hong Kong and Singapore and covered most markets and disciplines in the Asia Pacific Region. Presently as CEO for South East Asia, Chris oversees the firm's activity and expansion plans in the region, in addition to overseeing the firm's leasing business in Hong Kong.

Alongside his operational responsibilities he sits on the Asia Pacific Executive Committee which determines strategic direction for the business in the region. During his time, he has played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Singapore operations in 1995, and subsequently restructured the business in 2004. In addition, he has been involved in, and led numerous corporate acquisitions and strategic relationships for the group.

Chris has acted for many investors, developers, occupiers and end-users in many aspects of their real estate needs. Specialties include advising major occupiers on strategic premises issues, negotiation tactics and the execution of such plans in the Asia Pacific region.

Datuk Christopher Boyd
Executive Chairman

Datuk Christopher Boyd is the Executive Chairman of Savills Malaysia. He is a registered valuer in Malaysia. He has over 40 years’ experience in the country and a further 10 years’ in the UK, Australia and Singapore.

Datuk Boyd’s professional career in Malaysia has spanned leading roles in international property consultancies as well as 6 years as the Managing Director of a listed Malaysian development company.
